PHARE- Diversion

Empowers persons facing imminent homelessness to identify safe and appropriate housing options by exploring innovative crisis resolution approaches. Services include rapid assessment, triage, mediation, definite action steps, client choice, minimal assistance, and progressive engagement.

PA 509 Eastern PA CoC Diversion Strategy Demonstration Project

An extension of diversion services including mediation, advocacy, and diversion based services for those households experiencing homelessness in Somerset County.

Staff identify promising and equitable strategies to assist people (both landlords and tenants) in resolving their immediate housing crisis by accessing alternatives to entering emergency shelter or the experiences of unsheltered living.

Transitions Program

An evening Shelter Care Program that focuses on key life skills & case management that are critical to improving the health and wellness of our residents.

Partnered with the United Way of the Laurel Highlands & Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.


SOR Program

SOR -Emergency Housing

The SOR housing program aims to help
individuals suffering from opioid or
stimulant use. Case managers will
assess initial housing needs and work to
match participants with housing
options that best support their recovery.
Active treatment involvement and
compliance is required.

SOCO-OG

Next Step Center operates the SOCO-OG program. This program works in partnership with the Single County Authority (SCA). Participants must have been already enrolled in the SCA SOR program. The SOCO-OG is a continuation of services that provides intensive case management, light touch financial assistance, rental assistance, and comprehensive referrals to mainstream resources. NSC focuses on the goals to help participants obtain housing quickly to reduce the length of time in homelessness, increase self-sufficiency, and maintain permanent housing. Participants are provided wrap around substance abuse treatment and recovery services, which are incorporated into their stability plan. SOCO-OG is an individualized client-centered approach designed for individuals to help reduce barriers to treatment and housing.
